Accomplishments of South Gujarat Yuvacharyas

 

Executive Summary

 

Object: 

To implement the 5H programme in villages of South Gujarat. Areas of work done in the Talukas and Districts of South Gujarat are:

Health

Hygiene

Homes for homeless

Harmony in diversity

Human Values

 

Talukas and Districts covered :

Mandvi,

Umarpada,

Vasda,

Dang,

Dharmpur and

Kaprada

 

Achievements:

31,888 patients treated in 2 ½ years.

2000 eye surgeries done.

Tree plantation done, 14 Well’s dug for drinking water, 7 Gobar Gas plant constructed, Toilets constructed.

200 homes provided under Sardar Awas Yogana.

248 joint meals (till August 05) organized in various villages.

5 Samuh Vivah organized wherein 416 couples have got married at “0” cost.

2,500 pairs of free cloth distributed to deserving villagers.

Self Help Groups (SHG) formed and provided them govt. aid of Rs. 2 lakhs to start their business.

Villagers in and around the radius of 100 Km have been trained in the embroidery work. Job work has been provided from textile industry in Surat, making them self reliant and financially independent.

Deserving villagers have been identified by Yc’s of South Gujarat for the pension scheme announced by the Govt. and helped them get the benefit.

 

 

                                       

HEALTH

 

Under the able guidance of Dr. K.M Vaidya (MBBS), coordinator of YLTP, South Gujarat, Yuvacharyas (herein after referred to as “Yc’s”) were trained to deal with health related issues. The following are the areas in which Yc’s have worked:

  • Importance of Vaccination.

  • Motivating parents for vaccination of their children.

  • Effect of not giving vaccination to their children.

  • Organizing medical camps for villagers

  • In the area of paramedics such as treating simple diseases such as malaria, diarrhea , dehydration, night blindness, dressing of wounds, diagnosing  cataract in eyes, common cold and cough etc.

  • Care has been taken to see that Yc’s do  not go beyond a limit in treating the villagers.

  •  

    Reports of Yc’s are examined by Dr. Vaidya personally.

     

    Yc’s have treated 31,888 patients in 2 ½  years.

     

     

    In the area of cataract Dr. Vaidya has trained the Yc’s to diagnose cataract and bring them to the clinic wherein it is further checked by trained doctors.  Dr. Vaidya then maintains a database of such patients and then arranges medical camps for operating on cataract  by eminent eye doctors from Surat  & Mumbai. The hospital is equipped with the latest state of the art medical equipments.

     

     

    Yc’s have been successful in getting around 2000 eye surgeries done.

     

    HYGIENE

     

    Yc’s have worked in the following areas:

    • Tree plantation.

    • Wells for drinking water.

    • Gobber gas plants

    • Toilets.

     

    Tree Plantation

     

    Yc’s have gone and met the farmers in the villages and have imparted the knowledge of various income yielding trees such as Mangos, Teak, etc.

     

    Yc’s have gone door to door spreading the message of a forestation and the positive effect of growing tree on the environment.

     

    Saplings are procured free from forest department, nurseries, etc. Mango sapling has been purchased at around Rs.20/- per sapling.

     

    Yc’s have planted many saplings and are taking regular care of the sapling to see that they grow into a tree.

     

    Yc’s have personally met the farmers and educated them about the benefits of growing teak in their land. Yc’s have given them a statistical explanation of the monetary benefits of growing teak, mango tree.

      

    Wells

    Drinking water has been a problem in the village.  The source of drinking water has been rain water, which is not available all around the year.

     

    Yc’s have helped villagers in digging such surface water wells (known as “Veri” in Gujarati).

     

    The Art of Living Foundation helped by providing cement, and other materials, labor was provided by the beneficiary.

     

    Yc’s have completed 14 surface water wells till date. Lot many well is possible but are awaiting donations.

     

     

    Gobber Gas Plant (GGP)

    Yc’s have educated the people of villages the benefit of having a Gobber Gas Plant (GGP).

     

    Yc’s have technically explained the working of GGP to the villagers. The time and energy saved by the housewife in procuring dry wood for cooking purpose.

     

    Yc’s have convinced those villagers having at least 5 cattle's and a supply of water for 365 days to have GGP.

     

    Yc’s got aid from the government in the form of cement, steel, labor was put by the beneficiary and remaining amount of approximately Rs.3000/- per GGP was through Art of Living donation.

     

    In all 7 GGP are ready. 15 more are under construction.

      

    Toilets

    Many villages in South Gujarat do not have the concept of toilets.

     

    Yc’s motivated the villagers to contribute Rs.3000/- in the form of labor and some materials. Additional Rs.3000/- was through donation from Art of Living Foundation. Complete RCC toilets with white glazed tiles (good enough to last 10 years) are ready for use.

     

    Many such toilets have to be constructed.

    HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS

     

    Under the Sardar Awas Yogna of Government of Gujarat 94 homes have been completed by Yc’s.

    The contribution by the Government, Beneficiary  and the Art of Living is as follows:

     

    By the Grace of H.H Gurudev the homes have come out very well and the Taluka Development officer wants Art of Living to take 200 homes this year. The entire project has been executed with Zero corruption.

     

    HARMONY IN DIVERSITY

     

    Joint meals in Villages

    Yc’s have organize a total of 248 (till August 2005) joint meals in the villages.

     

    Samuh Vivah (Group Marriage)

    In order to save expense of wedding, Yc’s have organized “Samuh Vivah” (group marriages) of villagers.

     

    Around 5 such Samujh Vivah have been organized in which around 416 couples have got married at “Nil” expense.

     

     

    HUMAN VALUES

     

    Satsangs

    Satsangs and follow up have been carried out by YLTP Phase I & II in local languages making it more effective. 

     

    De-addiction

    Details available with Gujarat Coordinator.

     

    Free Cloth distribution

    Rich citizens of Surat city have donated lot of clothes, food grain, foot wares and have reached various villages through the YC’s.

    In last one year 2,500 pair of cloths has been distributed.

     

    Economic development of poor tribal

    Self help group (SHG)

    Yc’s have formed SHG of people living below poverty line. The SHG formed by Yc’s have received government help by aid and loan of around Rs 2 lakhs. Members have set up their own business like nursery, growing and selling vegetables etc.

     

    Setting up job work for the Surat textile industry

    Yc’s trained and skilled in the areas of embroidery have trained villagers, located in and around a area of 100 kms of Surat, in the area of embroidery.

    Yc’s have then got them job work from Surat to help them earn their living by becoming self reliant and independent. This has helped in reducing unemployment in villages. 

     

    Widow/Old age / Divorcee pension scheme of Govt. of Gujarat

    Govt. of Gujarat has a pension scheme for Widow, Old age people and Divorcee. Yc’s of South Gujarat have done the following:

    Understood the Govt.’s pension scheme

    Identified eligible beneficiaries

    Processed the paper work on their behalf.

    Submitted it to the concerned Govt department.

     

    This action of Yc’s has helped many such villagers in getting benefit from such schemes of which they never had any information. 

     

    We wish to say at this point all the aforesaid achievement of the Yuvacharyas has been possible only by the Divine Grace of Guruji. We surrender all our achievements to the Lotus Feet of our Beloved Gurudev.
